Everything worked well, and it was properly cooked. SWEET TEA BRINED BONE IN PORK CHOP $27: very good dish. Unfortunately, the soup itself tasted more like salt water. The server kindly took it back and brought back soup without crema. WOOD FIRE GRILLED TOMATO SOUP WITH BASIL CREMA $6: way too salty! The basil crema was extremely salty and not good. We didnt have reservations so we decided to sit at the bar (they have an outside patio too ). SEARED LUMP CRAB CAKE $13: good flavor, slightly spicy, good amount of crab. My husband and I went to Ember and Iron for date night it was perfect. Light whipped butter, pepper jelly, and jam were good. Gemma Fish + Oyster is an upscale casual oyster. LOGAN TURNPIKE MILL SKILLET CORNBREAD $7: overcooked, microwaved Jiffy cornbread. A new restaurant planned by Jacksonville husband-and-wife restaurateurs could be the pearl in the crown of a San Marco shopping center. Tap water is not filtered, so it has that strong NE Florida swamp funk and flavor. I appreciate not having condiments on the table, but they need to offer condiments. Also, the soup should be served with a slice of bread. They need to improve the corn bread, filter the water, and stop putting so much salt in the tomato soup. Not a long wait (we got there before the crowd). Large restaurant with upscale environment and friendly customer service. But for me, a $100 bday meal before a good tip should have a great seat and just a "happy birthday." All in all we probably won't be back because the experience was lackluster. The manager was nice enough to check on us but in his defense I didn't mention the seating or birthday thing because it may seem petty to some. I'm usually all about dessert but since I was put off I decided not to. They were definitely the highlight of my meal. The crab cakes were full of meat and very tasty. He didn't care as he doesn't care to eat them but I did! I got crabs cakes and a beet salad. His vegetables were undercooked and overly crunchy. He said the potatoes it came with were very good. ![]() Had to add pepper and salt which says a lot for me because I never add salt to any of my food! My husband had the Chimichurri steak, a little undercooked but he said it was good. Even just a "I hope you enjoyed your birthday" or any recognition would have been appreciated. ![]() Our waitress was attentive but never mentioned my birthday. I did not like mine, husband drank it for me. We were a bit turned off expecting a reservation table to be a booth or half booth more secluded table, especially since the restaurant was pretty empty. (It was definitely poppin when we were leaving though) We were greeted with no mention of the occasion and sat at a table in the middle of the floor space close to two other seated tables. My husband made reservations for my birthday.
